Artists Spotlight

Tim Rawlinson:

Tim Rawlinsonwas born in Bristol, England in 1985 and studied ceramics and glass at Buck’s New University, graduating in 2011. He exhibited his degree work that year at New Designers in London, where he met Peter Layton. Layton invited him to do work experience at London Glassblowing, where he ultimately became a member of the team.

Tim Rawlinson’s  work has been prominent there since 2012, including his solo show, “Kumano Kudo,” in 2018. Tim Rawlinson’s fascination with the way light passes through glass informs his work. He exploits glass’s transparency as its primary quality through manipulating and distorting both color and form to challenge his viewers’ perception. After casting blown glass components, Rawlinson aims to capture the quality that happens when ink falls into water as the color spreads and flows onto the super-hot liquid, creating fascinating layers of light and refraction.

Kazuki Takizawa:

In recent years, Takizawa has been making his work in glass an opportunity to speak about his personal experiences with mental illness. His  recent glass installation project, “In Between Light and Shadow,” was installed at STARworks Glass Lab in North Carolina to bring awareness to mental illness and suicide.

One of his best-known recent works, “Breaking the Silence,” was a metaphor for a person’s breaking point and the juxtaposition between balancing inner struggles with oppressive external forces around you.
